Immunizations for Adults Messaging

As National Immunization Month wraps up this week, share important messages encouraging vaccination among adults. Staying up to date with recommended vaccinations can help prevent serious complications and hospitalizations, especially among older adults or adults with underlying chronic conditions. Adults should receive the following immunizations:

  • Updated flu and COVID-19
  • Tdap
  • Zoster (50+ years old)
  • Pneumonia (65+ years old)
  • RSV (for everyone ages 75 and older and adults ages 60 – 74 at increased risk of severe RSV)

Schedule vaccine appointments with your health care provider, at a local pharmacy or at MyTurn.ca.gov.

Visit the CDPH Don’t Wait Vaccinate Toolkit for messages that highlight the importance of routine immunizations.

Mpox Prevention Messaging

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared mpox a global public health emergency due to an increase of cases in Africa from a new strain of mpox. While not reported yet in the United States - and the risk to the general public in the United States and California remains low - anyone can become infected with the new strain of mpox if they are exposed.

Share messages about how people can protect themselves:

  • Get fully vaccinated (2 doses).
  • Talk openly with partners about symptoms.
  • Avoid contact with materials a person with mpox has used.

Visit the updated CDPH Mpox Website.

VFC 2024 – 2025 Flu, RSV, and COVID-19 Vaccine Ordering Coming Soon!

As you prepare for the upcoming respiratory disease season, watch for detailed communications early next week about Vaccines for Children (VFC) ordering for 2024 – 2025 Flu Vaccine, Nirsevimab (Beyfortus™), immunizations to prevent severe RSV disease, and updated formulations of the COVID-19 vaccine.

We expect that orders for these products will open sometime the week of September 3, 2024, or once supply becomes available. Concurrently, opening the products for ordering will help alleviate the need for providers to have to submit multiple vaccine requests or supplemental orders.
