Mother's Day is this Sunday, May 12, 2024!

Join CDPH in celebrating Mother’s Day this Sunday, May 12, 2024, by acknowledging the successes of mothers and birthing parents everywhere, and encouraging your pregnant and parenting patients to continue their efforts to vaccinate themselves and their families.

To help keep pregnant patients and their babies safe, CDPH, CDC, and ACOG recommend these life-saving shots during pregnancy:

Updated COVID-19 vaccine (if not yet received)
Tdap (27-36 weeks of pregnancy, even if received earlier)
Flu vaccine (as soon as available during flu season)
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccine (September – January, between 32 and 36 weeks of pregnancy)

Rates of hospitalization for COVD-19 for young infants of unvaccinated mothers has been as high as rates for older adults. These hospitalizations can be prevented by a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine during pregnancy.

Despite these benefits, vaccination coverage during pregnancy remains low, particularly in Black pregnant people. CDC’s new campaign From Me, To You, promotes conversations about vaccinations during pregnancy while supporting the rich cultural legacy of Black parenthood.

Thank you for all that you do to promote and encourage vaccinations during pregnancy! Together, we can improve the health of mothers and their babies this Mother’s Day and beyond.

Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program Transitioning to myCAvax!

Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program operations will be transitioning to myCAvax on June 10, 2024. MyVFCVaccines will no longer serve as the home for ordering VFC vaccine, submitting returns and transfers, and other VFC Program-related activities. In preparation for the move to myCAvax, we ask that all VFC providers update storage unit and data logger information as soon as possible to prevent any disruptions to vaccine ordering.

CDPH will begin system training for VFC providers in late May 2024. VFC providers who are brand new to myCAvax should attend the 'Brand New Provider Training: Getting Started with myCAvax' training. All VFC providers should also attend the below trainings:

VFC 101: Requesting VFC Vaccine in myCAvax
VFC 102: Managing VFC Vaccine Inventory in myCAvax

Multiple sessions will be offered for each training. Dates, times, and registration links will be shared in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Preventing Hepatitis B Infection in US Adults

Please join the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID), the American Pharmacists Association, and the Hepatitis B Foundation for a webinar on the prevention of hepatitis B infection in U.S. adults. Discussion topics will include current US recommendations for hepatitis B vaccination and screening in adults, along with strategies for effective communication of current recommendations.

NFID Medication Director Robert (Bob) H. Hopkins, Jr., MD, will moderate the discussion with NFID Director Jean-Venable (Kelly) R. Goode, PharmD, Professor and Director, Virginia Commonwealth University; Lindsey Sizemore, MPH, CPH, Clinical Interventions Team Lead, Division of Viral Depatitis, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Su Wang, MD, MPH, Medical Director, Center for Asian Health, Hepatitis B Foundation.
