National Infant Immunization and World Immunization Week: Power to Protect

National Infant Immunization Week (April 21 – 28) and World Immunization Week (April 24 – 28) are an opportunity to remind families of the power of immunizations to protect against serious diseases such as measles, polio, and pertussis.

Current international and domestic measles outbreaks and three U.S. measles-related deaths in 2025 underscore the importance of maintaining high MMR vaccine coverage in our communities. Help spread the word! Inform all families that:

  • Measles is extremely contagious and can be very serious, especially in unvaccinated young children and pregnant people.

  • Two doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine provide 97% protection against measles!

Before traveling abroad:

  • Children ages 6-11 months will need 1 MMR dose; then follow the routine 2-dose series.

  • Ages 12 months and older need 1 MMR dose now and a 2nd dose 28 days later.
