Weekly Wrap Up Urgent Update: Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine Ordering
As of yesterday, June 6, 2024, all Pfizer COVID-19, 2023 - 2024 formulations are no longer available through Vaccines for Children (VFC), and Bridge Access Program (BAP). CDC has ended federal contracts for both pediatric and adult products. Therefore, CDC has turned off ordering for these products.
We anticipate that with the availability of the 2024 - 2025 updated COVID-19 formulation this fall, Pfizer COVID-19 products will once again become available for ordering through the California Vaccines for Children Program (VFC).
Providers may continue to administer the 2023 - 2024 formulation of the Pfizer products until on-hand inventory has depleted, or until vaccine reaches expiration or deauthorization of the 2023 - 2024 presentations. Once expired, providers must remove the product from the vaccine storage unit, report expired doses in myCAvax, and return expired doses to McKesson.
The VFC and BAP programs will continue to have Moderna COVID-19 vaccine available for ordering. The latest 2023 - 2024 expiry for 6 months – 11 years and 12 years+ vaccines is late September or better. Moderna indicates sufficient supply to meet demand between now and when the 2024 - 2025 vaccine is available. Please refer to the COVID-19 Vaccine Product Guide for information about Moderna vaccine.

For LHDs: Final orders for Pfizer 12 years+ were processed Wednesday, June 5, 2024. CDPH will zero-out LHD virtual inventories and cancel any pending orders on Monday, June 10, 2024.

myCAvax will be unavailable for all programs (VFC, VFA, SGF, BAP, Outbreak and 317) from Thursday, June 6 through Sunday, June 9, 2024. Providers will not be able to log into the system, place vaccine order requests, or manage vaccine inventory during this time. Please plan accordingly including keeping physical, written reports of any vaccine management transactions such as excursions, returns/wastes, and transfers until the system opens again.
