Weekly Wrap Up
The JYNNEOS mpox vaccine became available for purchase from the manufacturer, Bavarian Nordic, on April 1, 2024.
LHDs and Providers were asked to estimate the amount of JYNNEOS vaccine they would need for LGBTQIA+ PRIDE season (April to August) based on last year’s usage, and order doses by April 25, 2024. The order deadline has passed and CDPH has turned off ordering in myCAvax while current orders are being processed. Information on how to order future doses, if needed, will be provided in the coming weeks.
LHDs and providers are encouraged to start purchasing the commercial JYNNEOS product for their insured patients. A list of JYNNEOS wholesalers and distributors can be found on the Bavarian Nordic website at Contact Us | USA | Bavarian Nordic (bnvaccines.com).
Return to Table of Contents Urgent Update: Novavax Ordering for Bridge Access Program (BAP) Providers
As we approach the expiration date for the current COVID-19 vaccine, we anticipate changes in the availability of specific products and brands through CDC’s programs and the commercial market while we await decisions from the FDA on any potential updates to the vaccine. CDC has notified states that their currently available Novavax product has an expiration date of 5/31/24. Accordingly, they will be temporarily discontinuing provider ordering for this product.
The last provider orders should be submitted on Monday, April 29, by 5pm.
Please note that providers should only order the amount of product they expect to use by 5/31/24. There are no extensions on the expiration dates for this product. Upon expiration, doses should be removed from the vaccine storage unit, report expired doses in myCAvax, and return expired doses to McKesson.
