National Infant Immunization and World Immunization Week is April 22-29!

During National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) and World Immunization Week, let’s remind families to stay on track with their children’s routine checkups and recommended vaccinations. Considering recent measles outbreaks, timely vaccination is critical to protect children before they are exposed. Before the back-to-school immunization rush, ensure that infants and toddlers are up to date with their vaccines.

Also - don’t forget to protect young children 6 months and older who are about to travel abroad with their recommended accelerated doses of MMR.

All providers and staff play an important role in promoting childhood immunizations. Here are some simple steps to take:

Recall patients due for childhood vaccines such as MMR.
Encourage your Spanish-speaking parents to register for the informational webinar on vaccines, “Ask the Experts: Childhood Vaccines” in Spanish on Thursday, April 25 at 4-5pm (Pacific Time).
Review these tips on talking with parents about childhood vaccines.
Post the latest immunization schedule timing guide for staff to reference.
Share why you support childhood immunizations on social media using #DontWaitVaccinate and #NIIW. Check out social media content in the links below.

Reminder: CDPH Immunization Updates for Providers this Friday, April 19, 2024

Please join CDPH on Friday, April 23, 2024, from 9:00am - 10:30am (PT) for the CDPH Immunization Updates for Providers webinar series (occurs every other Friday).

In addition to our regular Q&A session with subject matter experts, we will have special presentations from the Coronavirus Control Branch offering a clinical update on PEMGARDA, and information on Immunization Quality Improvements for Providers (IQIP).

Please ensure someone from your staff attends to hear relevant and timely updates.

Mpox Vaccine Ordering and Commercialization Update

Beginning April 1, 2024, the mpox vaccine JYNNEOS became available on the commercial market. In light of this change, CDPH strongly encourages LHDs and Providers to estimate how much vaccine they will need to continue to provide vaccine through the summer and the upcoming PRIDE season. Please order estimated doses by Thursday, April 25, 2024.

While there will be opportunities to order from the Federal supply after Tuesday, April 30, 2024, justification for the need for the Federal supply will be required (e.g., lack of access to the commercial vaccine product). Federal ordering will end completely by mid-August 2024.

VFA Ordering Is Now Open

The VFA programs first ordering cycle in myCAvax is now live! Please plan to submit your order no later than Tuesday, April 30, 2024. After this date, you will not be able to place an order until the next ordering period projected in July 2024. The VFA Program does not offer VFA supplemental orders.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: The Vaccines for Adult Program transitioned to myCAvax in February for all provider management and ordering activities. To access ordering, VFA sites must have already completed VFA recertification on myCAvax. If your clinic location has NOT yet completed this process, take steps as soon as possible! For detailed information about this, please see the VFA Ordering Letter.
