Stay Safe this Holiday Season: Make Sure Patients Are Up to Date on COVID-19, flu, and RSV Vaccines!

The holidays are coming, which means traveling, gatherings, fun, and family! While we celebrate and hold our loved ones close, COVID-19, flu, and RSV will harm many this winter, with RSV activity starting to increase. Remind your patients that the best way to keep themselves and their families safe against these respiratory diseases is to stay up to date on vaccines before they gather or travel.

Tips for encouraging vaccination:

  • Share social media messages encouraging everyone 6 months and older to get their updated flu and COVID-19 vaccines. Babies under 6 months of age are too young to get immunized and depend on all of us for protection.
  • Encourage all adults 75+ and adults 60-74 years at elevated risk to get a single dose of RSV vaccine - protection from the vaccine will last at least two RSV seasons. This flyer can help.
  • Encourage patients 32-36 weeks pregnant to get vaccinated against RSV to protect their newborns from severe illness. Use the Prenatal RSV Robocall Scripts to remind patients to get immunized at your clinic or at the pharmacy.
  • Share Emily’s RSV story or Taj’s Story to spread awareness and advocate for babies and eligible toddlers to receive the RSV immunization.

  • Utilize tools from CDPH’s Flu and COVID-19 Vaccines Communication Toolkit or the Respiratory Virus Prevention Toolkit to promote vaccination.

Patients can visit MyTurn.ca.gov or talk to their healthcare providers to make COVID-19, RSV, and flu vaccine appointments.

Thank you for all you do to keep patients and families safe as we travel and gather.
