Urgent Need to Increase Respiratory Virus Immunization Coverage
Vaccine coverage is low for all recommended respiratory vaccines. Continue to recommend and administer influenza, COVID-19, and RSV immunizations to prevent severe illness.
Also remember to treat COVID-19 and influenza – antiviral medications are important but underutilized.
Refer to this CDC Health Alert for more information. Refrigerated Pfizer 12y+ COVID-19 Vaccine Coming Next Week
CDC will be replacing the current Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for persons 12y+ (NDC 00069-2362-10) on CDC’s pediatric and adult contracts with this new presentation: - NDC 00069-2377-10 refrigerated formulation (product has never been frozen)
- The carton will contain 10 prefilled syringes
- Must be stored refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C (36°F and 46°F)
- Shelf life aligns with the expiration date printed on the carton and syringe labels (6 months from production to expiry)
Of note: Pfizer will continue to allow providers to privately order the original manufacturer-filled syringes (MFS) for age 12+. Therefore, providers may have BOTH presentations – MFS with a 10-week Beyond Use Date (BUD) and MFS that can be used through the expiration date - in their storage units. If this occurs, providers should educate staff on the different storage requirements and strategies to prevent potential errors. For more information and resources, refer to this CDPH message.
