Protect Pregnant Patients During National Immunization Awareness Month!

In continuing to observe National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) during August, we are highlighting the importance of protecting pregnant patients and their infants. YOU have the power to protect your prenatal patients and their newborns by encouraging them to get vaccinated against COVID-19, whooping cough, and (coming soon when vaccine is available) flu and RSV.

As your patients’ most trusted source of health information during pregnancy, your strong recommendation makes a difference. As we are in August, you might say, “I recommend these vaccines for you and all of my pregnant patients because I believe vaccination is the best way to help protect you and your baby NOW against whooping cough and COVID-19—come back soon for flu, and RSV protection.”  See CDC’s #How I Recommend video series for examples of how to make an effective vaccination recommendation for pregnant patients.

Get Social!

You can also promote prenatal immunizations by posting to social media. There has been an uptick in COVID-19 in recent weeks. Pregnant people and their newborns are at higher risk of complications if they get COVID.  Watch Vanessa’s COVID-19 Story (video) about losing her baby to COVID-19 and her message to other moms to vaccinate.

Suggested message: Pregnant? Keep up-to-date with the latest COVID vaccination. Share your immunity with your newborn—the best protection from serious COVID complications. #PreventCOVID19
