FDA Authorizes and CDC Recommends Updated Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine
For more details see the FDA Authorization and the CDC Interim Clinical Communications
To minimize the risk of vaccine administration errors, Providers should remove deauthorized Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine, Adjuvanted (original monovalent), and do the following: - Dispose of all deauthorized Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine, Adjuvanted (original monovalent) vials in pharmaceutical waste containers or comingled pharmaceutical/sharps waste containers in accordance with local regulations and practice protocols for the disposal of regulated medical waste.
- BAP and VFC Providers should report all disposed inventory as wastage in myCAvax as reason “other.”
- Federal agencies and pharmacies can use Vaccine Provider Ordering Portal (VPoP) to generate wastage files to upload into VTrckS
Reporting for Bridge Access Program (BAP) vs. Vaccines for Children (VFC)
Reminder: Shipment Incidents, Waste, and Excursion reports must be reported through whichever system providers have ordered their COVID-19 vaccine. - For BAP program orders, report in myCAvax
- For VFC program orders, report in VFC system
Providers that report in the wrong system should contact an appropriate helpdesk for guidance on removing or updating the incorrect report and ensure they make the report in the appropriate system from which they ordered doses.
Handling of Deauthorized Novavax Vaccine - Quarantine deauthorized Novavax vaccine to prevent administration errors.
- Report doses as “Waste” in myCAvax and use “Other” to add comment “deauthorized”.
- Dispose of vaccines following practice protocols; vaccines may be disposed of in a pharmaceutical waste container, or a comingled pharmaceutical/sharps waste container.
Returning Pfizer Shippers and Temperature Loggers - Providers are required to return the shippers and temperature loggers. Please contact the Pfizer’s Controlant team to schedule a pickup at (701) 540-4039.There is no fee for scheduling a pick-up.
- See the resources listed below, provided by cvdvaccine.com regarding how to return the shippers and loggers.
Pfizer Packaging Slips
Packaging Slips for Pfizer are usually affixed to the outside of the box and must be peeled off before disposal of the box. If your shipment is missing a packaging slip, please create a shipment incident report in the system you ordered the vaccines for either VFC or BAP, and contact the corresponding call center for further assistance.
If you are unsure which program your ordered from, contact the appropriate call center listed above to confirm. When calling, make sure to provide your location name, order number, and product/total doses.
Important Update to Provider Location Addresses in myCAvax
- Background: The ‘Vaccine Administration Address’ was an active and relevant field in the U.S.G. COVID-19 program, in addition to the ‘Shipping Address’ field.
- Upcoming Change: On Friday, October 20, 2023, the ‘Vaccine Administration Address’ will be removed from myCAvax. To comply with CDC policy, providers must be prepared to receive vaccine shipments at the same address in which they are administering vaccine, and the shipping address listed on their Location Account must be used by all Program Locations.
- Requested Action: Providers, that need to update their shipping address to comply with the single shipping address requirement may contact the Provider Call Center at providercallcenter@cdph.ca.gov and 833-502-1245. Note that the secondary address line may be customized at each Program Location to specify a specific suite, building, etc. Be sure to confirm your shipping hours are correct as well!
Registration Deadline for Bridge Access Program
If you are a BAP-eligible provider interested in receiving BAP vaccine doses, complete program enrollment in the myCAvax Provider Community by Friday, October 27, 2023. Delaying enrollment may result in the prioritization of limited vaccine doses to other provider locations.
CDPH encourages provider participation in the Bridge Access Program as you play a critical role in the vaccination of key populations. We also understand that there are BAP-eligible providers who do not wish to participate in the program.
To maximize vaccine allocation and approval to interested providers, if you are BAP-eligible and would not like to participate in the program, contact your LHD. Your LHD will notify the CDPH Enrollment Team of the opt-out request via Chatter.
If you are a BAP-eligible provider and need help accessing myCAvax, or have any questions about the end of the COVID-19 Vaccine Program, the Bridge Access Program, or other provider-related topics, please contact the Provider Call Center at providercallcenter@cdph.ca.gov or call (822) 502-1245 M-F 8:00AM – 5:00PM PT.
Display Location on Vaccines.gov All providers must display their vaccination location to the public on Vaccines.gov so eligible adults can find no-cost COVID-19 vaccines. This is a one-time setup that uses the same provider portal used to report inventory to VaccineFinder. Your ID and password remain the same.
Update your information using either Manual Setup (quickest) or File Upload (if managing many locations) to complete these steps as documented in CDC guidance: - Set location for BAP participation
- Set up vaccine availability at your location
- Make vaccine availability visible on Vaccines.gov
