Returning State General Fund (SGF) Flu and Bridge Access Program (BAP) COVID-19 Spoiled/Expired Vaccines
Only spoiled/expired COVID-19 and flu vaccines are eligible for a return. Providers must report waste in the system they ordered vaccines from (myCAvax system for Bridge Access Program (BAP) COVID-19 and/or SGF Flu ordered products; Vaccines for Children (VFC) system for pediatric COVID and/or flu ordered products). Providers with an active account are responsible for reporting their own waste and should not withhold any reports with the intent of reporting in bulk. Waste must be reported as soon as it occurs.
Return shipping labels will be sent to the Primary Vaccine Coordinator within one business day following CDPH's process of reports into CDC's VTrckS system. Providers may use any available shipping container to return the vaccines to McKesson or Pfizer. Providers must return vaccines as soon as possible since the return labels are only good for 30 days.
For assistance with reporting waste in myCAvax or checking on Return Shipping Label progress, please contact the Provider Call Center at ProviderCallCenter@cdph.ca.gov or 833-502-1245.
Relevant Resources: Mpox (Jynneos) Waste Reporting
Providers active in the Outbreak Program (mpox) must report Wasted, Spoiled, and Expired Jynneos vaccines in myCAvax. Mpox Waste must be reported in vials—not doses. Providers must then dispose of nonviable vaccine as medical waste according to practice protocols. Mpox (Jynneos) vaccines are not eligible for returns, no matter if they are spoiled or expired.
Providers who are not active in the Outbreak Program (mpox), will need to report waste to their LHD per existing protocols (or download and email mpox reporting spreadsheet to your LHD).
For assistance with reporting waste in myCAvax, please contact the Provider Call Center at ProviderCallCenter@cdph.ca.gov or 833-502-1245.
