Weekly Wrap Up Vaccines for Children (VFC) 2024 – 2025 Vaccine Ordering Updates 2024 – 2025 flu vaccine is now available to order! Flu ordering through the VFC Program is now available to order! Request doses on the regular VFC vaccine order form alongside other routine vaccines. Initial flu vaccine orders will NOT be shipped automatically by VFC. For the 2024 - 2025 season, providers must order through their myCAvax account and are expected to actively go in and submit their flu vaccine request up to their allocated amount. The initial amounts available to order will be dependent on available supply and allocations. Expect multiple allocations at the beginning of the season. You will be able to order doses up to your total pre-booked doses or confirmed season allotment. As supply comes in, VFC will add doses to your allocation for you to draw down from, and place flu orders as needed. Make sure to only order what you can store. Providers who have recently submitted an order through VFC for routine vaccines, and that order has not been approved yet, VFC will send that order back to providers so that they can add your flu request. Orders that were recently approved and not yet shipped, will prevent providers from entering a supplemental flu order. Providers may enter a supplemental order once products are received. VFC Customer Service Center: (877) 243-8832 (phone), MyVFCvaccines@cdph.ca.gov (email). For myCAvax Technical Support, contact the Provider Call Center by calling the VFC Customer Service Center and selecting option 9, or via email to myCAvax.HD@cdph.ca.gov.
RSV ordering coming soon. Due to initial limited thresholds from CDC and to ensure access to providers seeing patients recommended to receive nirsevimab, allocations and ordering will occur in phases to ramp up supply in preparation for the start of RSV season in October. Providers who have received allocations for nirsevimab in the first allocation phase have been notified. Allocations provided must be ordered no later than Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
COVID-19 vaccine ordering coming soon. The California VFC Program will send a communication when the 2024 – 2025 COVID-19 vaccine is open for ordering. For more information on VFC 2024 – 2025 vaccine ordering, refer to the Immunization Updates for Provider Webinar, slides 44 – 52 (slides | recording) Vaccines: A Core Prevention Strategy for Fall Respiratory Diseases CDC recommends the updated 2024 – 2025 influenza and COVID-19 vaccines for everyone 6 months and older. RSV immunizations are recommended for older adults, pregnant people, and infants. Providers may offer all recommended respiratory virus vaccines during one visit. For more information and resources on COVID-19, flu, and RSV vaccines, refer to the Immunization Updates for Providers presentation, slides 27 – 40 (slides | recording), Fall-Winter Immunizations Infographic and additional CDPH resources. The Pfizer 6 months – 4 years vaccine remains a 3-dose vial & requires diluent. Pfizer in vials can be stored in ULT temperatures until expiration; the 10-weeks BUD in refrigerator still applies. Pfizer glass prefilled syringes may only be stored in the refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C (35°F to 46°F) until the expiration date printed on the carton or syringe. Moderna can be stored in a refrigerator for up to 60 days once thawed. Moderna COVID-19 vaccines will come as a prefilled syringe presentation for both the 6 month – 11 years and the 12+ years doses. Novavax presents as a single dose pre-filled syringe and can be stored in the refrigerator until the expiration date. The expiration can be found by scanning the QR code on the product carton or syringe. Bridge Access Program (BAP) Updates CDC will provide additional section 317 federal funds to continue to support COVID-19 vaccination of uninsured and under insured adults. Funding will be limited but may support vaccine ordering levels similar to doses ordered as part of the BAP for the past 12 months. For adult COVID-19 vaccine ordering: Ordering will reopen in early October. LHDs will still review and approve vaccine orders. Orders will continue to be submitted and process via myCAvax-BAP. The CA-BAP infrastructure will remain in place, extending it for another Federal Fiscal year, or as funding permits.
For provider participation: Action items include: Prepare for new allocations and ordering procedures. Check and update the status of provider activity. Prepare provider communications.
