Pfizer bivalent booster doses are also available for small orders through AmerisourceBergen, the third-party redistributor.

The Pfizer (12+ years, purple cap) vaccine has an expiry and extinction date of September 30, 2022.

Monovalent Booster Doses:
  • Keep vaccine until expiry and use them as primary doses as applicable, e.g., Moderna (6 - 11 years, blue cap).
  • List them on the vaccine marketplace.
  • Dispose of at expiry – no shelf-life extensions pending.
  • If you absolutely need the storage space, and have exhausted redistribution options, you may dispose of the vaccines.
  • Do not donate them outside of the U.S.

Please follow guidance in the Provider Operations Manual to report and dispose of expired vaccine.

Flu and COVID-19 Vaccine Coadministration

Flu and COVID-19 vaccine coadministration is safe.

Providers should offer influenza and COVID-19 vaccines at the same visit, if the patient is eligible. Extensive experience with non-COVID 19 vaccines has demonstrated that immunogenicity and adverse event profiles are generally similar when vaccines are administered simultaneously as when they are administered alone. Generally, COVID-19 vaccines administered with seasonal influenza vaccine (SIV) showed similar or slightly higher reactogenicity, however no specific safety concerns were identified.
