Pediatric COVID-19 Bivalent Booster Vaccine Ordering

Pfizer pediatric (ages 5-11) bivalent booster vaccine preorders are now open in myCAvax until Monday, October 3 at 5pm. The current Moderna bivalent booster vaccine for adults will be used for individuals ages 6-17. Therefore, there will be no preorders for the product. Pfizer Bivalent Booster Vaccine Storage & Handling

Pfizer Pediatric (5-11 years) Bivalent Booster Vaccine

The Pfizer pediatric (5-11 years) bivalent booster vaccine has an orange cap, which is the same cap color as the Pfizer pediatric (5-11 years) monovalent vaccine. Continue to carefully check vial labels to ensure that the intended product is administered. Below is a comparison of the Pfizer pediatric (5-11 years) monovalent vaccine and the Pfizer pediatric (5-11 years) bivalent booster vaccine labels.


Moderna Bivalent Booster Vaccine

The current Moderna bivalent booster vaccine for adults will be used for those 6-17 years of age. The dosage will be 0.25 mL for individuals ages 6-11 and 0.5 mL for individuals ages 12 and up. Below is the Moderna bivalent booster vaccine label:



 


Apply Now for KidsVaxGrant 2.0! 


The KidsVaxGrant 2.0 still has funds remaining! CDPH has appropriated approximately $14 million to support KidsVaxGrant 2.0. Apply now to receive up to $35,000 to support eligible pediatric providers administering the COVID-19 vaccine.
Eligible providers:
  • Providers serving pediatric populations that are already enrolled in the California COVID-19 vaccine program (myCAvax), who are expanding operating hours by a minimum of 25 hours, could be eligible for $25,000, per site. 
  • Providers serving pediatric populations that are newly enrolled in the California COVID-19 vaccine program (myCAvax) could receive $10,000 per site to support enrollment and launching a vaccination center.

myCAvax Reminders


Adult COVID-19 Bivalent Booster  

Additional allocations of adult Pfizer and Moderna bivalent booster vaccines are available on myCAvax.  


CDC Vaccine Order System Closure 

The CDC vaccine order system is offline from September 30 to October 1. Orders placed on or after Thursday, September 29 will be processed on Monday, October 3. 


Update Storage Capacities  

Update Storage Capacities by Thursday, October 6, including temperature monitoring expiration dates, types of storage, etc. Beginning Friday, October 7, Vaccine Order Requests can only be placed for products that are inputted into myCAvax.  


Columbus Day: myCAvax Temporary Closure Hours 

Vaccine shipments will be delivered on Monday, October 10 (Columbus Day). If your Provider location will be closed and unable to accept vaccine shipments, please update temporary closure hours in myCAvax by Wednesday, October 5th.

  • Authorization of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent (Original and Omicron BA.4/BA.5) for individuals 12 years of age and older 
  • Use of each currently authorized vaccine presentation, including storage, handling, preparation, and administration
