Among her many achievements, Dr. Silvia Diego was steadfast in her effort to protect her community from COVID-19. She kept her clinic opened when many others closed, giving motivational talks and bonuses to her staff as clinic hours were increased to ensure that everyone in the community, especially the underserved, had an opportunity to be vaccinated. Dr. Diego never hesitated to take extra time to talk to others who had questions about COVID-19 disease or vaccination, including patients, staff, and other healthcare providers in the community. Dr. Diego led her clinic in the fight against COVID-19, with her and her staff administering thousands of COVID-19 vaccinations in their community. Dr. Silvia Diego has also been a former recipient of the California Medical Association’s prestigious Frederick K.M. Plessner Memorial Award.
When families, healthcare professionals, and public health officials work together, all Californians can be protected from serious and deadly vaccine-preventable diseases. Dr. Silvia Diego is an inspiration to all of us who care passionately about ensuring equitable access to vaccines and increasing vaccine trust. We are pleased and honored to congratulate Dr. Diego on this well-deserved award.
