Pfizer EUA-labeled Monovalent Vaccine Transition to Pfizer Comirnaty Monovalent Vaccine

The Pfizer EUA-labeled monovalent (12+ years) vaccine will transition to the Pfizer Comirnaty monovalent (12+ years) in myCAvax. The timing of this transition is to be determined, and CDPH will continue to provide updates.

The Pfizer EUA-labeled monovalent (12+ years) vaccine and the Pfizer Comirnaty monovalent (12+ years) vaccines have:

  • Grey caps
  • Same storage and handling requirements (see the CDC Storage and Handling Summary for Pfizer products for more information)
  • Same vaccine eligibility and schedule (see the Vaccine Timing Guide)
  • Same CVX code (217)

Reminder: Expiration Dates vs. Beyond-Use Dates

Expiration Dates: The dates determined by the manufacturer beyond which the vaccine is no longer acceptable to administer to patients, regardless of storage condition.

Beyond Use Dates/Times (BUD): The last day/time that the COVID-19 vaccine can be safely used after it has been transitioned between storage states (thawed, refrigerated, etc.), or altered (diluted, drawn up for administration, etc.) for patient use. The BUD replaces the manufacturer’s expiration date but never extends it.

Dispose of the vaccine on whichever date/time comes first!
