Expired State General Fund (SGF) and Vaccines for Children (VFC) supplied vaccines must be returned to McKesson and reported in myCAvax. Please complete the following: - Remove the expired doses from your storage unit immediately.
- DO NOT return any expired privately purchased vaccine doses, broken vials or syringes, or open multi-dose vials.
- Record a Returns and Waste event in myCAvax to receive a return shipment label to send back any unused doses to McKesson. You can select the ‘Email’ or ‘Mail’ return label shipping method while recording a Returns and Waste event.
- Email: Return label will be sent to the Primary Vaccine Coordinator usually on the day the return is submitted, from McKesson Specialty Dist. [mailto:pkginfo@ups.com], subject line “UPS Label Delivery, <Label tracking Number>.”
- Standard mail: Return labels will be mailed to the provider location. The envelope containing the return label will have the wording “Return Label for Expired Vaccines” in red font.
- Return shipping labels are only valid for 30 days; ensure expired flu doses are returned to McKesson as soon as possible.
- Place all the return labels inside the box if there are multiple.
If you do not receive your return label from McKesson within 7 days, contact CDPH for further assistance.
Return to Table of Contents VFC Eligibility and Changes to CHDP The Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) Program has transitioned as part of Medi-Cal as of July 1, 2024. Children 18 years of age or younger, originally under CHDP will still qualify for VFC and will transition to being covered under Medi-Cal. VFC resources have been updated to reflect the change.
A recording of the May 29th, Children's Presumptive Eligibility (CPE) Overview session is available on the Medi-Cal Learning Portal under the course code: CNPE104RW. For any questions about CPE, formerly known as CHDP Gateway contact ChildrenPE@dhcs.ca.gov. Billing questions should be referred to the Medi-Cal Telephone Service Center at (800)-541-5555.
If you have additional questions regarding the CHDP program, please send an email to CHDPProgram@dhcs.ca.gov. The CHDP program general inbox will be closed on December 31, 2024. Return to Table of Contents Prefilled Diluent Syringes Hiberix, M-M-R®II, VARIVAX, and ProQuad now come with prefilled syringe diluents. The volume of diluent in the prefilled syringe may be slightly more than 0.5mL (~0.7mL). Prepare and administer the entire volume and record as 0.5mL dose even if a larger volume might have been given. This should provide the intended dose of the vaccine antigen and standardize charting.

Vaccines for Adults (VFA) Ordering Update The ordering window for Quarter 3 will be July 15 – 26, 2024. During this period, HPV vaccine will be unavailable for ordering. Alternative methods of Access will be available: - Effective July 1, 2022, HPV vaccine was added as a covered benefit for Family Planning Access Care and Treatment (PACT) patients ages 19 through 45 years. We strongly encourage you to utilize this benefit for VFA-eligible, Family PACT patients where HPV vaccination is recommended.
- Contact the Family PACT program with questions - Family.Pact@dhcs.ca.gov or 916-650-0414.
Additionally, during Quarter 3, vaccine dose requests for PCV and Zoster vaccines will be reduced by 65% of the practice’s historical pre-cap ordering data (Q2 2022). Order caps for all other vaccines will remain the same as the previous quarterly order periods.
Reminders: - Vaccine requests must be based on the needs of your eligible patient population
- The VFA Program requires reported doses administered with each VFA order be based on doses recorded in CAIR as “317.”
- If requesting vaccine over the recommended order size or the designated cap, provide a justification in “Step 2 – Review Doses Requested and Confirm Additional Details” of the myCAvax order form.
- The VFA Program does not offer supplemental orders.
A formal announcement will be sent next week by CDPH. Questions? Email us at my317vaccines@cdph.ca.gov.

PCC & VFC Customer Service Center Call Drivers Inventory: To ensure VFC vaccine doses administered and doses in inventory are accurate, providers should use the Inventory Summary columns in the myCAvax order form to find Estimated Inventory and Variance quantities. Order Status: View the status of your vaccine order requests at any time in myCAvax. By clicking the unique Order Number, view related details and review specific vaccine products ordered. If the status of your order is in ‘Corrections Needed’, remember to review the notes the CSR added when sending the order back for corrections, double check the information provided in doses used / inventory, etc., to see what information might be missing in the order.
New ‘Order size reason’ column: As a reminder, providers need to provide a reason for each vaccine they’re ordering above the ‘Recommended Order size’ field quantity. This is a change compared to what they would previously do in a MyVFCvaccines order, which was only entering one reason in the ‘Comments’ section of the order.
