What is a temperature excursion?
Any temperature reading outside the recommended ranges in the manufacturers’ package inserts (or the EUA) is considered a temperature excursion.
Why should I monitor temperature excursions?
Vaccines are very sensitive to temperature changes and a temperature excursion may affect the viability of the vaccine.
How do I know if a vaccine had a temperature excursion?
Your digital data logger will tell you.
What should I do if there is a temperature excursion?
Quarantine the vaccine and label "DO NOT USE" until you determine viability. Contact the manufacturer or use one of their temperature excursion tools to see if the vaccine is still viable. You must report temperature excursions to myCAvax. Even if the vaccine is still viable, you must report!
