On September 22, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended the RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) vaccine for pregnant people at 32 through 36 weeks gestation during the months of September - January to prevent RSV lower respiratory tract infection in infants.
Please strongly recommend this immunization to your pregnant patients.
Please document immunization in CAIR so that providers caring for the newborn can tell whether the infant needs protection after birth with nirsevimab.
It is safe to co-administer this immunization on the same day as other recommended maternal immunizations, including Tdap, COVID-19, and influenza.
In addition to RSV immunization, please continue to strongly recommend updated COVID-19 and flu vaccines as well as Tdap (at 27-36 weeks gestation) to your pregnant patients. These vaccines also help protect their babies in early life. Thank you for all that you do to protect pregnant people and their babies against vaccine-preventable diseases!
